Izmir enjoys a mediterranean climate. It is mainly a summer resort, the winter months are the coolest but even then the temperatures can reach 16ºC.

Things to see & do

There are many things to do during your holiday in Izmir. Visit the Clock Tower in Konak Square and the relaxing Culture Park. A cable railway runs from Izmir to the mountains which give spectacular views over the Aegean. Enjoy a traditional Turkish bath or take a therapeutic soak in Balcova hot springs. Apart from shopping, Forum Bornova shopping mall is a great place to enjoy gokarting and iceskating. Visit Izmir Birds Paradise, home to 205 species of birds, 308 kinds of plants and 17 species of reptiles.

Izmir has a buzzing and exciting nightlife with a variety of bars and clubs to choose from. The Alsancak district is known for its charming bars featuring hiphop and salsa theme nights. For a night out at the theatre, the Bornova district is also home to a few theater complexes such as the one in Uur Mumcu Park.

Food & drink

A typical meal in Izmir starts with mezze followed by Kofte, Shish Kebab, Pide or Dolma with Baklava for dessert. Loukum (Turkish Delight) is served with a cup of Turkish coffee. The aniseed based raki is the traditional spirit along with Efes the locally brewed beer.
