The weather is one of the main attractions in The Bahamas. The tropical climate means a magnificent 310 days of sunshine every year. There are two seasons; summer, which is from May through to September and winter, which is from October to April, although temperatures rarely drop below the mid twenties. During the summer, the days tend to get hot and humid and the winters are slightly drier and cooler.
Things to see & do
Holidays in the Bahamas start at the beach, so there are lots of water sports to choose from. All that clear water offers the chance to explore ship wrecks and coral reefs and swim with dolphins and pigs (yes, there really is a place called Pig Beach where you get to do just that.) Children love the Pirates of Nassau interactive museum in Nassau, while golf enthusiasts head to the islands' many worldclass courses. Go cycling, bird watching or horse riding. Take an ecotour and enjoy the islands' flora and fauna at close quarters, or visit the Ardastra Gardens in Nassau with its flock of marching flamingos. Shop for gifts and souvenirs at the Straw Market on Downtown Street in Nassau, open 24/7.
The Bahamas come to life after sunset. Live music is everywhere, from steel drum bands to the home grown sound of 'Rake n' Scrape'. Enjoy limbo dancing, karaoke and beach cocktail bars. Nothing beats open air dancing in the warm tropical night, with the moon and stars above. And if beautiful desert islands get you thinking about treasure, then you might like to visit one of the luxurious casinos on Nassau and Paradise Island.
Food & drink
Local Bahamas specialities include rum, tropical fruit and spicy dishes, but you'll find a huge choice of international restaurants and fast food joints throughout the islands.
