The Grand Canyon has a dry, desert climate, with very hot Summers and cool/chilly winters. The South Rim experiences pleasant weather year round, with a chance of light snowfall in the winter. The North Rim is colder in the winter and wetter in the monsoon season (July to August) than the South Rim and also has lots of snowfall in the winter. The North Rim is often closed to visitors from mid-October to mid-May. The Inner Canyon experiences baking heat in the Summer and cool winters.
Things to see & do
There are lots of things to see and do on a holiday in the Grand Canyon. The Grand Cayon National Park is just waiting to be explored! Take a flight over the Grand Canyon, the Indian Territory and surrounding desert landscapes by helicopter. Go white water or smooth water rafting along the Colorado River, as it passes through the Grand Canyon. Visit Death Valley by jeep. Enjoy a fishing trip on the Colorado River. Walk the Trail of Time between Yavapai Museum of Geology and the Verkamps Visitor Centre. Tour the scenic Hermit Road. Travel along Desert View Drive, a 25km route to the east of the Grand Canyon Village on the South Rim, taking you out to the Desert View Watchtower and East Entrance. Tour the North Rim Scenic Drive, visiting Point Imperial and Cape Royal along the way. Take a day trip to Las Vegas, for shopping and gambling galore.
The Grand Canyon doesn't offer much in the way of nightlife but there's a good selection of bars, cafe and restaurants dotted around the North and South rims to enjoy dinner and a drink either indoors or alfresco, with views of the canyon and its mystical sunsets.
Food & drink
There are many eateries to satisfy your tastebuds in the Grand Canyon. The South Rim has many restaurants, coffee shops and cafes to enjoy. The Inner Canyon has the Phantom Ridge Canteen for hearty breakfasts, packed lunches and dinner. The North Rim is home to dining rooms, openair cookout places, a saloon and camper store.
